You don’t have to be a celeb to have beautiful lips. There are non surgical ways to make your mouth smooth, plump and beautiful.

The first step is to exfoliate your lips. Just like on your face and other areas of your body, dead dry skin cells make your lips dull and unattractive. There are microexfoliators on the market made especially for sensitive lips. Sephora has a brown sugar scrub that retails for $22.50. Or you can whip up one of these homemade lip scrubs. Remember, whenever you are applying any treatment to your lips, start slow and rub gently.

• Mix equal amounts of sugar and olive oil. Apply gently with a washcloth. Then rinse and apply lip balm.

• Or gently rub your lips with petroleum jelly on a wash cloth.

• Coat a half lemon with sugar and rub it gently over your lips. Then rinse with ice cold water.

• Massage your lips with a soft bristled toothbrush, moistened in tap water. Rinse off dead skin flakes when you are done.

While we all want to have a body that is toned and trim, your lips area one place you want to be plump. There are ways that don’t involve surgery to enhance your lips.

• Whistle to work out the muscles in your lips. If you whistle loudly for 2-5 minutes every day, you will strengthen the muscles that will lead to fuller lips. In fact, the results are almost immediate.

• “Poof” to plump. Add a second exercise to your lip workout routine. Close your lips, as if you were going to say “poof”. Hold that pose for a few seconds. Then, holding that same pose, move your lips from right to left. Repeat 8 to 10 times.

• Cinnamon and spice. Cinnamon and clove essential oils, applied to your lips, increase the blood flow and make your lips fuller.

• Honey of an idea. Apply a thin layer of pure honey to your lips. It naturally draws the moisture to the surface, leaving your lips full and soft.

Now that you have strengthened and conditioned your mouth, it is time to apply lip gloss or lip stick. You have literally hundreds of choices of shades and types of lip cover. Lip glosses have more moisture and come in tinted shades. Because of their lighter cover, lip gloss is the cover of choice during the summer. If you prefer lipstick, you will need to decide if you want a matte or cream type. Each have their benefits. Matte lipsticks are drier, but last longer. Cream lipsticks can give good coverage and have the added benefit of providing moisturizer. If you have dry lips, you might want to find a hydrating lipstick.

No matter what type of lipstick you choose, with the correct application, you can use it to make your lips appear fuller. Start with a deeper shade at the outside corners of the lips. Then apply a lighter shade of the same color to the center of the lips.
