Timely results are easy to come by, but some quicker procedures offer more impressive results than others. Read on for our interview with Dr. Grace Kim-Abroms, a physician focusing on laser skin care and other short-term procedures, as she explains the how and why behind some of her fastest and most effective procedures:
Younger.com: Most of us want to avoid any kind of recovery times for facial skin rejuvenation, so what is the least "invasive" procedure that you would recommend?
Dr. Kim-Abroms: I separate skin care treatments into three categories:
• Least invasive
• Minimally invasive
• Truly invasive or "ablative"
In my office, the least-invasive procedure for skin care would be a medical grade microdermabrasion (with or without a chemical peel), to exfoliate the skin. This process decreases fine lines and pigmentation while opening up clogged pores, but does not damage deeper-level tissues in the process.
Both options are quick and get best results as a series of 6 treatments; it is recommended to continue every 4-6 weeks thereafter.
Younger.com: We've been hearing a lot lately about "lunchtime" procedures – what are the easiest procedures you recommend that actually make a big difference?
Dr. Kim-Abroms: BOTOX® Cosmetic can dramatically reduce a "tired" appearance, and it takes only minutes. The effect will be noticeable after approximately 2-3 days and continue to improve over the next 2 weeks. Keep in mind that BOTOX will wear off in approximately 3-4 months; therefore, one should plan and budget their treatments 3-4 times per year.
Younger.com: Multiple-procedure treatments are popular right now; do you typically perform several procedures at a time, or space them out?
Dr. Kim-Abroms: I have a very busy injection practice with BOTOX and fillers. However, we also do many other treatments in my office from laser resurfacing and laser lipolysis (or body fat contouring) to laser hair removal and skin care treatments.
At my practice, patients can almost always combine treatments if they want to. For example, I may have someone scheduled for a laser treatment who will decide to squeeze in a quick BOTOX injection at the end. It just depends on the patient's goals.
Dr. Grace Kim-Abroms is a California physician offering procedures that range from BOTOX Cosmetic to San Luis Obispo laser skin rejuvenation at her practice, Rejuvenation Medical Skincare & Laser (http://www.irejuvenate.com). Dr. Kim-Abroms received her medical doctorate from the acclaimed McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Montreal, Quebec, before advancing into the field of aesthetic medicine specifically. She now specializes in some of today's most up-to-date options for laser skin care and is an active member in professional societies including the American Association of Cosmetic Physicians and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
